Geraldine “Gerry” Meredith, 85, of Newton died on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4,at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with burial in the Slagle Cemetery near Newton. The family will be present at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2012. Memorials may be directed to the Building Fund of the Newton Village and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Gerry was born on February 26, 1927, in Elliott, Iowa to Samuel and Gertrude Mick Stennett. She was raised in Elliott and graduated from Elliott High School with the Class of 1944.

On July 18, 1948, she was married to Harold Meredith in Elliott. The couple lived in Searsboro and she was employed at the General Telephone Company of Midwest in Grinnell. In 1960, the family moved to Kellogg and she worked as an administrative assistant for the Midwest Manufacturing Company in Kellogg.

Gerry enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and she enjoyed doing family genealogy.

Survivors include her children, Doug (Renita) Meredith of Cumming, Georgia and Becky (Bob) Gruening of West Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Becky Kay (David) Hennessy of Landinburg, PA Hallie (John) Olsen of Atlanta, Georgia, Lindsay (Jared Hecox) of Duluth, Georgia, Caitlin (Zack) Bareis of Atlanta; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Ruby Petersen; and one brother, Ross Stinnett. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 29, 2012.
