Baxter, IowaVisitation: The family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m., May 15, 2012 at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
Interment: Immediately following the funeral service and lunch on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.Those left to honor Jim's memory are his wife of 41+ years, Janet of Baxter; children, Christina and husband, Brad, of North Liberty, J. D. and wife, Tracy of Colo, David and wife, Shawna of Council Bluffs, Danny and wife, Lucinda of Osh Kosh, Wisconsin, Jenny of Newton, Angie and husband, Logan of Knoxville; his grandchildren, Cade and Lauren Maras, Jonas, and Isaac “Baby James” Porter, Kyle, Amber, Alissa, and Keaton; brother and sisters, Gene (Betty) Porter of Baxter, Vivian Pennington of Bruinwick, Missouri, Ruby (Max) Milligan of Baxter, Wilma Maness of Booneville, Arkansas, Doris (Bob) Barton of Sidney; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Delmar Porter, and sister, Fern Melvin
Jim served his country in the U. S. Army.
Jim was a graduate of Riverton High School in Riverton, Iowa in 1956.
Jim was a production worker at the Maytag Company in Newton for many years, retiring in 1996. Following his retirement from the Maytag Company, Jim started driving school bus for the Baxter School District. He attended Colfax Cowboy Church. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan, playing cards, and carting around town.
