Floyd Leroy Mulbrook was born in Newton, Iowa March 3, 1926 to Francis Parnell Mulbrook and Sara Cecil Autry Mulbrook . He attended Newton schools but left in the 8th grade to work and help support his young widowed mother, who alone, raised five children in the Depression Era. Just a boy at age 17, Floyd entered the U.S. Navy in WW2 and was stationed on a fuel tanker in the Pacific arena. On August 30, 1945 he married Donna Engle. After the war, he joined the Maytag Company and worked as a pipefitter/welder for 46 years. Some of these Maytag co-workers, whom he worked with and joked, remain friends today. Many know Floyd as an extremely hard worker working two jobs much of his adult life. He was a true “jack-of-all trades”. He and Donna built and made their home in Metz, where they raised three children. Floyd wasn’t a formally educated man, yet he was self-taught, bright, and he had a very curious, inquisitive mind. He always wanted to know more. His hobbies ranged from tearing up motors and fixing cars, to understanding the intricacies and dynamics of the stock market, to watching TV’s History and National Geographic channels, and of course every “judge” show that has ever been on TV!! He loved to play cards with friends and family to keep his mind quick and ever sharp. Until the last few years “Floyd Travolta” loved to go dancing with Donna and meet new and old friends. Although he was fiercely independent, he joined the Malcom American Legion and the Newton Moose Lodge 923 where he was an active member. Surviving his loss are his wife Donna of 66 years of the home, his dear brother Francis Mulbrook of Newton, his children; a daughter Florette Melton and son-in-law Chuck of Lexington, N.C., son Michael Mulbrook and daughter-in-law Linda of Clinton, Ark., son Frank Scott Mulbrook of Newton. Five grandchildren who loved him are Melinda Mulbrook Mahoney and husband Ryan of Fox River Grove, Ill., Matthew David Rittenmeyer and wife Kristen of Dallas, Tex., Brooks Boertje and wife Brandy of Lynnville, Brian Boertje of Newton, and Jennifer Melton of Carrboro, N.C. He loved watching and interacting with his Great-Grandchildren; Taylor Boertje 13, of Lynnville; Caroline Grace (Carly) Rittenmeyer 11, Lindsey Katherine 9, and James Jeffry (Jay) Rittenmeyer 6, of Dallas, Tex., and Ian Maccabe Mahoney 2 of Fox River Grove, Ill. Also surviving is a very special friend for many years, Scotty Walker. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends will remember his silly jokes, teasing and common sense, no-nonsense “Words of Wisdom”. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Carroll, Roger and Ivan Doyle Mulbrook, sisters, Judith Avonel Mulbrook and Ramona Joyce Mulbrook Remmark; and daughter-in-law, Victoria Mulbrook. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family requests in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Floyd’s name to Jasper County Hospice 204 N. 4th Ave. E; Newton, Ia. 50208 or Macedonia United Methodist Church, Outreach Shoe Project, P.O.190 Southmont, NC 27351. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa.
