James Herbert Clement, 81, of Colfax died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012, the Evangelical Free Church in Baxter. A luncheon will be served following the service at the church. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Colfax Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Coburn Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Evangelical Free Church in Baxter or the Cowboy Church. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Herbert and Maude May (Bailey) Clement, James was born on April 13, 1931, in Maxwell. Growing up, Jim lived in Maxwell, Farrar and Rhodes before settling in Colfax. Following high school, he entered the United States Army and served as an engineer in the Korean War. After his time in the military, he went to work at Maytag in Newton and retired after 30 years. On May 14, 1995, he was united in marriage to Janet Warner at the Evangelical Free Church in Baxter, which they attended. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting trap.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Janet of Colfax; his children, Denice Ward of Colfax, Walter Clement of Minnesota, and Sheila McCall of Urbandale; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; step-children, Brian Rumbaugh of Mingo and Lauri Rouse of Altoona; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
