Steven Max Stoaks, 69, of Colfax died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 23, 2012, at the Colfax United Methodist Church. Burial followed at the Colfax Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Colfax United Methodist Church or the Colfax Fire Department. Steven M. Stoaks, age 69 of Colfax, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at the Colfax United Methodist Church, with burial following at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church and the family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Colfax United Methodist Church or the Colfax Fire Department. The son of Raymond and Glenna (Haas) Stoaks, Steve was born on March 11, 1943 in Ames, Iowa. Steve was raised in Clearfield and moved to Colfax in 1966. He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1961 and attended Southwest Community College. On March 30, 1968, he was united in marriage to Karen Magg at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked at Maytag from 1966 until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement, he worked as a seasonal mower and cemetery helper for the City of Colfax and worked for Schlosser Farms. Steve served in the Iowa National Guard. He was also a member of the U.A.W. Local 997 and the Colfax Fire Department.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Karen of Colfax; a son Brian (Kelli) Stoaks of Clive; a daughter Brenda (T.J.) Tjaden of Colfax; four grandchildren, Madison and Max Stoaks and McKinzie and McKeely Tjaden. Also surviving are three sisters, Helen Stoaks, of Santa Clara, California, Phyllis (Tom) Williams of Colo, Iowa and Marge (Cliff) Maurer, who is Steve's twin, of Strasburg, Pennsylvania; a brother, Larry (Nancy) Stoaks of Longmont, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Margaret Stoaks of California; Linda (Paul) Walter of Colfax, Sandra Brawner of Colfax, and Shirley (Dave) Engle of West Des Moines; a brother-in-law, Gary (Marilee) Magg of Colfax and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, and two brothers, Gene and Harlan. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa.
