Wilbur A. Brayton

Funeral services for Wilbur A. Brayton, 84, of 616 E. 11th St. S., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, were held this morning, July 7, at the Newton Foursquare Church.

The Rev. Oscar Shepherd, pastor of the church, and Rev. Joe Babcock, associate pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday at the funeral home.

He died Friday morning the Embassy Manor Care Center.

Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Brayton’s name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Marie, three sons, Robert and Harold, both of Newton , and Don of Des Moines; a daughter, Pat (Mrs. Gary) Skiles of Newton; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Miller and Mrs. Gladys Fifer, both of Newton, and Mrs. Florence Jarnagin of Marshalltown; and two aunts, Carrie Horrell and Hazel Albee, both of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.

Mr. Brayton, a member of the Foursquare Church and the UAW, Local 997, had been a machinist at Maytag Plant 1 for 36 years, retiring in 1965.

The son of John W. and Laura Mae Albee Brayton, , he was born May 23, 1902 in Sully.

He was married to Anna Marie White May 22, 1926 in Prairie City.
