Beatrice I. Beyer

Funeral services for Beatrice I. “Bea” Willemsen Beyer, 76, of 205 E. 20th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1962, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Immanuel Baptist Church.

The Rev. Richard Fleming, pastor of the church, and Jonathon Payne of Ankeny will conduct services. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Memorials to the Immanuel Baptist Church will be accepted.

Survivors are a daughter, Judy Louise Russell of Johnston; a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Laura Vander Pol and Jeanette Willemsen, both of Sully, and Agnes Van Der Witt of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester, Oct. 17, 1988, two brothers, Joe and Howard, and a sister, Sarah Vander Pol.

Mrs. Beyer, a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and Senior Saints, had taught in rural school in Killduff and Kellogg, Newton schools and Newton Christian School.

The daughter of Henry and Sarah Van Rees Willemsen, she was born Aug. 10, 1915 in rural Killduff, attended Springhill rural school, was graduated for Kellogg Community High School and the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls and attended Drake University in Des Moines.

She was married to Lester Beyer Feb. 14, 1938 in Killduff.
