Joseph E. Morgan

Joseph Eldred Morgan, 72, of 411 E. 5th St., S. along time resident of Newton died Saturday, August, 1994 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Knoxville of complications from diabetes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church, and Captain Leroy Miles of the Salvation Army will conduct services.

Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home today and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Salvation Army or American Legion will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Harriett; two sons, Steven Joe of Pittsburg, PA; Michael Lee of Panama City, Fla.; four daughters, Pamela Kay Morgan of Denver, Colo.; Carol Ann (Mrs. Terry) Gray of Newton; Linda Sue (Mrs. Tim) Wozny of Grinnell; and Kimberly Jo Morgan of Story City; nine grandchildren; and a brother, B. Dwight of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Morgan, a member of the First Unite Methodist Church, was a veteran of World War II serving in the Coast Guard for four years.

The son of Wyatt Wayne and Leona Edith Moore Morgan, he was born Sept. 4, 1921 in Des Moines and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

He was married to Harriett Irene Gardner Sept. 23, 1945 in Sacramento, Calif.
