James Johnson Services Held

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the smith Funeral Home for James F. Johnson, 78, of 822 Reed St., who died Friday afternoon (March 20) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eugene Staecker, from an apparent heat condition.

The Rev. Robert L. Hinshaw, minister of the Ashton Chapel at Baxter, Iowa, officiated at the services. Music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist, and Mrs. Noel Taylor, vocalist.

Pallbearers were Gale Johnson, Delbert Emperly, Keith Johnson, Junior Johnson, Olin Johnson and Roger Hinshaw. Flowerbearers were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vanness and Mrs. Velma Gilbreath.

Burial was in Rock Creek cemetery west of Grinnell.

The son of John and Belle McGhghy Johnson. Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 24, 1892, on a farm in Appanoose County, Iowa, between Centerville and Exline. He spent most of his life in Jasper and Poweshiek Counties.

On May 1, 1911, he married Ollie Clinkenbeard at Sedan, Iowa. To this marriage were born---Mrs. Stella Beattie of Casey, Francis Johnson of Moulton, Francis Johnson of Moulton, George Bunker of Newton, and Virginia Johnson, LeRoy Johnson and Mrs. Eugene Staecker, all of Grinnell.

Surviving in addition to his six children are 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers---John of Milwaukee, Wis., and Vernie of Grinnell; and one sister, Mrs. Vera Hinshaw of Kellogg.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie, in 1924; four brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter.
