Additional information from Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home website:
Dick Junior Vos was born south of Sully, Iowa on December 5, 1927. He was one of seven children that were born to Minnie (Roelofsen) Vos and Dick John Vos, who was born in the Netherlands. His parents farmed in the Sully and Kellogg, Iowa vicinities where Junior, as he was known, attended Sully Christian Grade School and worked on the farm. On August 25, 1949, he was united in marriage with Berdena Evelyn Jansen, a daughter of Evert and Gertie (Fopma) Jansen, at the Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully. To this union five children were born: James Eugene, Steven Lavern, Carol Sue, Jeffrey Lee and Bradley Dean. Junior and Berdena lived and farmed with his father and mother on the home place until his parents moved into Sully in 1966. At the same time Junior drove truck for Van Wyk Freight Lines at Grinnell, Iowa and was employed at Cross Implement in Killduff, Iowa. During this time he was active with the Jasper County Cattlemen’s Association and the Pork Producers; and he was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Kellogg Lion’s Club in Kellogg, Iowa. Junior put in his last farm crop in 1987 at which time they later relocated into Sully. However, Junior never fully retired. He did grounds maintenance work at the Diamond Trail Golf Course in Lynnville, Iowa while learning to play golf, and most recently made deliveries for Janco Industries, Inc. in Sully. Junior acquired the name of "Fabrication Steel Transportation Engineer" and worked just three days during year 2011 until he became ill. On old year’s evening, December 31, 2011, he passed away in the presence of his family in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, Iowa at the age of 84 years. Junior’s needs were attended to by his caring wife of 62 years, Berdena, an Emergency Room Technician at Skiff Medical Center in Newton for 32 years.
She and her five children, their spouses, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren will cherish his memory. They and their families are:
