Mary Elizabeth Thomasson, 87, of Mitchellville died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the Mary E. Thomasson Memorial Fund, and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Herman and Rose Marie (Adams) Breer, Mary Elizabeth Breer was born on June 12, 1924, in Hollandsdale, Minn. Mary fell in love with Roy Edward Thomasson and the two were united in marriage on Feb. 17, 1945, at Camp Lejune. To this union, six children were born. Mary worked hard as a nurse, cook and then homemaker. She cherished her family and was a great caretaker for them. Mary enjoyed collecting many different items.
Those left to honor Mary’s memory are her children, Jan Poulson of Mitchellville, Paula Smith of Newton, Joy (Chris) Hagedorn of Newton, Jamie Thomasson of Mitchellville and Jay Thomasson of Marshalltown; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and siblings Wilma Pearson, Jerry Breer and Mildred.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; daughter, Pamala; and siblings.
