Carl Frederic Bunse, 92, passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 31, 2011, at his Park Centre home in Newton.
A funeral service for Carl will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Pastor Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church will conduct the service. A visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carl’s name are being designated to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice.
Carl, the son of Herman Harry Bunse and Nettie Iske Bunse, was born May 21, 1919, at their home near Newton. He graduated from Oak Ridge rural school, Newton Township.
On April 27, 1946, he was united in marriage with Agnes L. Hatfield. They established their home on the family farm northwest of Newton where he farmed and continued to live until moving to Park Centre. He devoted his life to his family and enjoyed relating the changes in farming and living that he had observed over his lifetime.
He was a long-time Grange and Farm Bureau member, served on the Newton Township school board, was boys’ 4H Club leader and a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Agnes on Dec. 3, 2008; his sister and brother-in-law Doris and Delbert Kneeland; and sister-in-law Hazel Hatfield.
Those left to honor Carl’s memory include his sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin E. and Koni Bunse of Newton and Carroll W. and Janet Bunse of Melbourne; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen B. and Larry Den Hartog of Little Chute, Wis.; his five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law Forrest Hatfield of Leon; and his many nieces, nephews and friends.
