So Sad

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Vaughan, of Whitewood, South Dakota, have had a double affliction. As we stated before, on the seventh day of this month their son Frances, two and a half years old, died. On the fifteenth of this month their six months old daughter, Winifred, also died, the disease of both being whooping cough and measles. At the last report, their daughter Isabella, five years old, was the point of death, with the same complications of diseases. The deepest sympathy of many Newton friends is extended to the heartbroken parents. ~ The Newton Journal, Wed 24 Mar 1897.

Transcriber note: The following from Newton Union Cemetery Records; Vaughan Frances 2 Monday, March 1, 1897 child of Thomas A. & Alice (Trimble) Vaughan; body brought from Buffalo Gap, SD with father’s body; possibly in casket with father.
