Local Woman Dies Today

Mrs. Lucy E. Van Meter, 74, Dies at her Home here this Morning

Mrs. Cyrus W. Van meter, 74, died suddenly this morning around 9:30 o’clock, at her home here in Newton. She had been in failing health for some time with a heart condition. During the past week her condition became worse. Mrs. Van Meter, the former Lucy E. Mackrill, was born Dec. 19, 1870, in Tipton County and was married March 2, 1890, to Cyrus Van Meter, who survives.

They moved to Newton around 21 years ago from Dunlap, Ia., Mr. Van Meter is employed at the Maytag Company here.

In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons, Roy, of Newton, and Ray and Walter, of Marshalltown; two daughters, Mrs. Carl Rippke, of Toledo, Ohio, and Lela, at home; four brothers, Conn, of Oklahoma, Harry and Lee of Sac City, and Louie of Minnesota; two sisters, one twin sister, Mrs. Ella Hiesel of Centerville, S. Dak., and Grace Barns, of Fonda; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a daughter, who died in infancy.

No funeral arrangements have been made. ~ Newspaper unknown, 13 June 1945.
