Harry G. Sitler Dies here Today.

Funeral Services to be Held Here Sunday Afternoon at 2 O’clock

Harry George Sitler, prominent Jasper County retired farmer, died at his home on North second avenue West at 3 o’clock this morning following a brief illness. He was 64 years of age and had been in failing health for some time but until the few days preceding his death he was actively able to transact his business affairs.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral Home.

Mr. Sitler was born in Meadeville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, on March 1, 1866. He came with his parents, J. R. and Carrie Sitler, to Newton, when he was an infant and the family located northwest of Newton on a farm which has since been known as the Sitler farm.

Here he grew to early manhood, receiving his education in the local schools and later attending the State teachers College at Cedar Falls.

While at Cedar Falls he met Miss Mary Cooper to whom he was married on July 4, 1893. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Ruth Moore of Wellington, Colo., and another child who died in infancy.

The family resided on the old homestead until Mrs. Sitler’s health failed when they moved to Colorado, where Mrs. Sitler preceded him in death in 1921.

In 1923 he was married to Martha A. Cox and they returned to the family homestead where they spent a period of six years after which Mr. Sitler retired and moved to Newton.

Mr. Sitler figured prominently in the early history of the Oak Ridge Grange, being one of the most active members of the organization at that time. He was also well-known in farming circles. He was a member of the Methodist Church and for many years was affiliated with the Elks and odd Fellows lodge.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. H. G. Sitler, his daughter, Mrs. Ruth Moore of Wellington, Colo., three step-daughters, Mrs. A. J. March, Mrs. George Damman and Truia Cox, and four grandchildren. ~ Newspaper name and date illegible.
