Monroe, Iowa - Funeral services for Bernard H. Hummel, 82, of Monroe, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Gander, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Visitation will be held after noon Tuesday at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe where family will be present Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorials to the Monroe Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted.
Mr. Hummel died of cancer, Sunday, June 28 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
The son of Fred and Anita Pearl Bowans Hummel, he was born Oct., 22, 1915 in New Monroe. He was a 1934 graduate of Newton High School.
He was a resident of Ankeny for 24 years and of Monroe for the last 12 years.
Mr. Hummel retired in 1982 as director of the Ankeny Water Department where he was employed for 24 years. He was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church and Monroe Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; two sons and
daughters -in-law, Michael and Dee of Urbandale and Timothy and Jane of Pleasant Hill; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patty and Jack Mass of Clarkston, Mich. and Peggie Emmack of Ankeny; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond of Porterville, Calif.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
