Obituary of Mrs. Lafayette Reeves

Lucinda Dawson was born in Athens county, Ohio, Oct. 30, 1843 and died at her home in Colfax March 30, 1916. Age 72 years and 6 months. In 1858 she moved to Illinois with her parents where they stayed for about seven years, returning to Ohio in 1865. In 1866 she was married to Lafayette Reeves at Athens, Ohio. From this union ten children were born, 7 boys and 3 girls. In 1869 they moved to Missouri and in 1874 came to Iowa where they have since resided, the last 18 years having been spent in Colfax. She united with the Methodist church about 1875 and, although shut in for a number of years, remained a devoted member until her death. She bore all her suffering with true Christian fortitude and self sacrifice. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband and seven children, four boys, Albert F. and Clarence of Colfax, J. W. Reeves, Litchfield, Minn., and Pearl Reeves of Springfield, Ohio, and three girls, Mrs. Mary Popejoy, Aredale, Iowa, Mrs. Clara Shields, Livermore, Iowa, Mrs. Venetia Butler, Des Moines, Iowa, also one sister, Mrs. Mary Reeves of Des Moines. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon conducted by her pastor. All the children except Pearl were present at the funeral.
