John E. Brandhof, 78, of Mitchellville died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be left at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of John and Jennie (Van Maanen) Brandhof, John Edward Brandhof was born on August 10, 1932 at the family farm near Mitchellville. Ed attended and graduated from Mitchellville High School. On December 24, 1953 Ed was united in marriage with Leona Vanden Hoek. The couple made their home near Mitchellville where Ed had the joy of being a farmer. Ed served his country as a member of the United States Army from which he was honorably discharged. He was a member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder and the Mitchellville American Legion. Ed also served on the Mitchellville Co-op Board.
Those left to honor Ed's memory are his wife of 57 years, Leona Brandhof of Mitchellville; son, Duane Brandhof, his wife Brenda of Mitchellville and his children, from a previous marriage with Mary Brandhof, Julie (Erik) Nikkel of Bondurant and Douglas Brandhof of Mitchellville; son John Brandhof, his wife Lisa of Mitchellville and their children, Daniel Brandhof of Springfield, IL and Austin Brandhof of Mitchellville; two great granddaughters, Mallory and Madison Nikkel of Bondurant; one sister-in-law, Marie Brandhof and three nieces, Marilyn, Sharon and Betty. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Brandhof.
