Marilynn Lucille Edgeton, 85, of Fairfield passed away peacefully Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Jefferson County Health Center surrounded by family members.
Marilynn was born March 11, 1926, in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Merle Anthony Hitchler. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1944.
Marilynn worked at the Newton Manufacturing Company for two years following high school.
Marilynn met the love of her life, James William Edgeton, in Newton, and they married Aug. 9, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo. Jim passed away on Oct. 11, 2009, following their celebration of 62 years of marriage.
Marilynn was a devoted wife and mother. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years while her children were growing up. She then later worked at Brown Pharmacy for 17 years. She was an active member of the Fairfield First United Methodist Church and sang for many years in the church choir. She was a member of the Fairfield Chapter of T.T.T.
Her passions were spending time with her family and playing bridge with the many friends she had in the community. For over 30 years she looked forward to the annual family fishing trip to Blackduck, Minn.
Deceased family members include her husband, her parents; one brother, George Hitchler; and a daughter-in-law, Laura Van Dyke Edgeton.
Those left to honor her memory include daughter Nancy (Randy) Krutzfield of Iowa City: two sons, Jim (LeAnne) Edgeton of Fairfield and Tom (Laura Fair) Edgeton of Kirkwood, Mo.; five grandsons, Ryan Edgeton, David Edgeton, Jim Edgeton III and fiance Adena Schnedler, Jon Edgeton and Mark Krutzfield; two sisters, Marvel Clements and Marjorie Lane of Metz, Iowa; one brother, Bob Hitchler of Metz, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield with Pastor Mike Metz and Pastor Nate Nims officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Interment will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery near Newton.
