Sharon Swisher, 65, of Newton died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of William and Iva (Alloway) Swisher, Sharon was born March 23, 1946, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1964 and was a lifelong resident of Newton.
Sharon was a cook for the Newton Community School District for almost 10 years, retiring in 2010. She was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed NASCAR racing, cheering for Jimmie Johnson, playing bingo, fishing, going to wrestling matches and figure 8 races, and watching John Wayne western movies.
Sharon is survived by her siblings, Larry (Connie) Lakin of Newton, Ron (Cindy) Swisher of Newton, Glen Swisher of Colfax and Laurie (Albert) Sudbrock of Newton; an aunt, Imogene (Milo) Allison of What Cheer; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her niece, Kimberly Swisher; and several aunts and uncles.
