Wilma Langmaid Tinnermeier, 95, of Newton died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, at the United Presbyterian Church in Newton. Wilma’s family will be present at a public visitation at Pence-Reese Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 19. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in rural Newton. Memorials have been designated to United Presbyterian Church, Hospice of Jasper County and Newton Public Library.
The daughter of Willis B. and Lena (Mackerman) Langmaid, Wilma was born June 22, 1915, in Newton. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School, Class of 1932. She received her normal training and taught rural country school for six years.
On June 4, 1939, Wilma was united in marriage with Carl Tinnermeier at St. John’s Church. She devoted her life to her husband and family, helping on the farm. She was a member of the St. John’s Church, Wittemberg Church, United Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member of the Merriweds and Cloverleaf. She taught Sunday School for many years, was the pianist for the Wittemberg Church for 12 years and United Presbyterian Sunday School, was a 4-H Leader and served on County Committee. She enjoyed her family, traveling, reading, church and community involvement, and music. Wilma was a member of the Mariposa and Wittemberg Granges in Jasper County, the Farm Bureau and Jasper County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl on Oct. 15, 1981; three brothers, Don, Dale and Vern; and a sister, Muriel Kreager.
Those left to honor the memory of Wilma include her daughters and son-in-law, Kathleen Jackson of Newton and June and Richard Schmidt of Park Falls, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sandi Tinnermeier of Newton; 14 grandchildren, including Julie Fitzgerald of Newton; 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Jane McDaniel of Newton; and many friends.
