Robert A Schermerhorn, 86, of Panguitch, Utah, formerly of Newton passed away at his home on Saturday, June 11, 2011, after a short illness.
The family will greet friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton with military honors by American Legion Post 111 and the Iowa Honor Guard Detail of the Iowa National Guard.
Bob was born in Newton on April 14, 1925, to Arthur and Nina Schermerhorn. He was the first of nine children. Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran and spent four years (1942-1946) in World War II. Bob worked in the aerospace industry 40-plus years on the west coast. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 in Newton.
Those left to honor Bob’s memory are his children, Michael (Lynn) Schermerhorn of Huntington Beach, Calif.; Myra Louise (Ralph) Brink of Santa Ana, Calif.; Rebecca Kniesley of Panguitch, Utah; and Tina (Rick) Miner of Panguitch, Utah; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Ruth, in 2006.
