Former Resident Dies in California

C. E. (Ed) Hotchkiss, 75, died at his home in San Diego, Calif., Friday [January 29, 1960] of a heart condition. Funeral services are pending.

Born and reared in Newton, he attended the Newton schools and was married in 1910 to Ella V. Woodrow. They moved to California 10 years ago.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Fred Hotchkiss of Los Angeles, and several nieces and nephews. A son, Robert Wendell, preceded him in death in 1942.

The deceased was a member of the Congregational church. He served for many years on the Newton park board, was employed at the Jasper County Savings band for a number of years before starting his own business, Larchwood Flowers.

Mrs. Elmer Pickens of Newton is a sister of Mrs. Hotchkiss. ~ The Newton [IA] Daily News, January 30, 1960, page 2.
