Kathryn R. (Wonders) Hasselman, 84, of Newton died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or the First Assembly of God Church may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.
The daughter of Charles William and Ola Edith (Hughes) Wonders, Kathryn was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Iowa City. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1944 and attended one year of Bible College.
On June 16, 1946, Kathryn was united in marriage with Donald William Hasselman in Newton.
Kathryn was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and knitting. She also loved playing games with her family and friends including Scrabble and dominoes. She was a lifelong resident of Newton.
Kathryn is survived by five daughters, Linda (Henry) Van Elsen of Newton, Becky (Wade) Dickinson of Gilbert, Ariz., Pam (Ron) Husted of Newton, Sheila Tomah of Walters, Okla., and Jill (Scott) Schwarz of Covina, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald W. Hasselman; son, Steven W. Hasselman; and her seven siblings.
