JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Andrew Micheal Thomas, 27, formerly of Newton, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Jefferson City, Mo.
A time of fellowship and celebration of Andrew’s life will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Andrew’s name are being designated for saving accounts for his daughters and may be left at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Andrew, the son of James Thomas and Penny Jean (Van Gorp) Thomas-Alspaugh, was born Dec. 18, 1983, in Newton, Iowa. He lived in Newton and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Holts Summit, Jefferson City and Fulton, Mo. He attended school in Holts Summit and Jefferson City and went on to attend Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
Andrew devoted his life to his girls and was a tattoo artist. He was of a free spirit, enjoying tattoos, motorcycles and cage fighting.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ryan; his maternal grandmother, Virginia Van Gorp; and paternal grandfather, Wayne Thomas.
Those left to honor Andrew’s memory include his daughters, Audrey Brooke Thomas and Skye Ann Thomas, both of Fulton, Mo.; his mother, Penny Jean (Clyde) Alspaugh of Newton; his father, James Thomas of Jefferson City; his brothers, Christopher Thomas of Ankeny and Michael Thomas of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Lora (Thomas) Connley of Yuma; his maternal grandfather, James Van Gorp Sr.; his paternal grandmother, Gloria Thomas; and his many friends.
