MRS. BATES STEPP DIES; RITES MONDAY

Mrs. Bates (Marcella Mary) Stepp, 39, of route 3, died late Thursday evening at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines.

Survivors are her husband; one son, Dennis at home; one sister, Mrs. Cleo (Gladys) Lewis of Bayard; and one brother Bernard Kading of Casey. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Monday at Johnson funeral home with the Rev. Philip Biblehimer, of First Lutheran church officiating.

Born to William and Rose Kading December 27, 1919 at Casey, she married Bates Stepp April 15, 1950 at Chariton. She lived in Jasper county since that time. She worked at the Maytag Co. from 1951 to 1957.

Mrs. *Bates attended Casey high school and Capital City Commercial college at Des Moines. She moved to Des Moines in 1937 and then to Washington, D.C. in 1941. She returned to Des Moines in 1944 and came to Newton in 1950.

She was a member of the Lutheran church and Legion auxiliary. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery at Casey.
