Ione Purvis, 85, of Newton died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the funeral home. Memorials in Ione’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of John and Leona (Foster) Eaton, Ione was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Centerville, Iowa. She grew up in southern Iowa and had lived in Kellogg and later in Newton since the early 1950s.
On Dec. 1, 1945, Ione was united in marriage with Forrest R. Purvis in Centerville. Ione was a homemaker and a mother. She was a member of TOPS 207 and enjoyed playing cards with friends and going on an annual camping trip to Unionville, Mo., to listen to the Statler Brothers.
Ione is survived by two sons, Lyle Purvis of Newton and Larry (Deena) Purvis of Newton; three grandchildren, David (Diana) Purvis, Kim (Keith) Mueller and Doug Purvis; three step-grandchildren, Chad Bailey and his friend, Carrie Carre, Bradley Johnson and Scott Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Kinzi, Kordell, Tyrel, Carter and Colton; three step-great-grandchildren, Patti (Justin), Matthew and Erica; one great-great-granddaughter, Layla; many step-great-great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Robert (Caroline) Briggs of Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Forrest, in 2005; son, Lewis “Louie,” in 2006; great-grandson, Tyler Purvis, on April 5, 2011; and a sister, Velda Briggs.
