Betty J. Van Baale, 80, of Newton died Sunday, May 8, 2011, in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Newton Union Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Loree officiating. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to the Salvation Army Loan Closet may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of William and Alta (Gilmore) Logue, Betty was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Houston, Mo. She grew up in Missouri and moved to Newton when she was still in school, graduating from Newton Senior High School.
On Feb. 8, 1951, Betty was united in marriage with Duane Van Baale in Newton. She was a homemaker and mother and a member of the First Baptist Church. Betty enjoyed playing bingo. She also loved going to her children and grandchildren’s events and activities.
Betty is survived by her husband, Duane Van Baale of Newton; her son, Mike (Linda) Van Baale of Newton; her daughters, Robin (Dave) Heck of Newton and Vickie (Rick) Elliott of Newton; six grandchildren, Risa and Ryan Heck, Morgan and Caitlin Elliott and Bryan Van Baale and Sarah (Dave) Davidson; three great-grandchildren, Riley Odem, Trey Davidson and Quincy Davidson; and many nieces and nephews, including her two nieces that were like daughters to her, Tonda Eilander and Darla Sudbrink.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Herbert Logue, Calvin Logue and Robert Logue; and two sisters, Cleo Sutton and Leila Reynolds.
