Obituary of Early Settler of Lynn Grove Township

Allen Mendenhall, son of Temple and Sarah Newlin Mendenhall, was born August 20, 1843, near Plainfield in Hendricks county, Indiana, and departed this life at his home near Lynnville, Iowa, August 8, 1908, aged 64 years, 11 months and 18 days.

When about 16 years old he came with his father's family to Jasper county, Iowa, and settled near Lynnville, where he has since resided.

He was a birthright member of the Friends church, but like all who come to know their own hearts, he found that without Christ in his soul and life he was lost. So he sought Him and found Him in early life and lived a conscientious christian life.

On August 21, 1882, he was united in marriage to Ruth Hockett and to this union were born three children, Rhodema, Moses and Della, who with their mother mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. He also leaves three brothers and one sister besides a host of friends and neighbors who feel that a good citizen and neighbor has gone from our midst.

Funeral services were held at the Friends church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by his former pastor, Mrs. Kirby, text 2 Cor. 1:4. His remains were laid to rest in the Friends cemetery east of Lynnville. Pall bearers, David Stanley, Seth Allee, Albert Johnson, Henry Johnson, Wilford Williams and Robert Ladd.--Star.
