Obituary of Mrs. Rhoda Osborne

Rhoda Hammer, daughter of Zachariah and Jane Hammer, was born September 14, 1862. She was united in marriage to Henry Osborne, August 28, 1889, at Newton, Iowa. To this union three children were born: H. Jay died in infancy at the age of six months; Orpha Klopping, and Orville Osborne were constantly near her during her long illness. The end came at 5 o'clock Sunday evening, February 26, 1922.

Rhoda Osborne has always stood for what she knew to be right, and has gone about her Christian work with untiring zeal. During the time that Center had no minister insisted that a service be held and often led the service. She was ever ready to speak for her Master and He has called her home.

She was a woman of strong convictions and endured affliction with unusual Christian fortitude.

Rhoda Osborne has been called one of the pioneer settlers of the community, and one who knew personally its people for many years. Her last public service was on Thanksgiving Day 1920, at which time she prepared and read a history of the church and community at the Home Coming service.

She was an elder in the church, and up to the time of her death, and has only been promoted to a higher and heavenly office above.

Besides her husband, and two children she leaves her father Zachariah Hammer, two brothers, Charlie and Jay Hammer, and one sister, Mrs. Cora Morris, who shall miss her from the family circle. She has left many other relatives and even friends, to whom she is known as Aunt Rhoda. To all these she has ever been a blessing and constant source of helpfulness.
