Dorothy M. Richards, 92, of Kellogg died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Kellogg United Methodist Church or the Kellogg Historical Society may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of James and Mary Leona (Munger) Gardner, Dorothy was born July 18, 1918, in rural Newton. She grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. On Oct. 25, 1941, she was united in marriage with William “Bill” Richards. She lived her married life in Kellogg.
Dorothy was a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, reading and watching tennis. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, William G. “Bill” Richards of Urbandale and David (Kathleen) Richards of Palm Coast, Fla.; one granddaughter, Mindy (Jason) Schildroth; two great-grandchildren, Logan Schildroth and Hannah Schildroth; two step-grandchildren, Kirsten Seiler and Jason Young; four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Kreager of Newton; a brother, Dale (Peggy) Gardner of Newton; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gardner of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William J. Richards; brother, James Gardner; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Schildroth.
