OSKALOOSA — Pauline Dinsmore Brostrom, 92, of Newton and formerly of Oskaloosa, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 20, 2011.
Pauline was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Fremont, the daughter of Frank and Mary Ferguson Dinsmore. She was a basketball standout at Fremont High School and graduated from Fremont with the class of 1935. Mrs. Brostrom attended William Penn College and taught school for several years. She married Chester Brostrom on May 24, 1942, at her family home at Fremont.
Pauline and Chester farmed near Fremont until they retired in 1984 and moved into Oskaloosa. In 2009, she moved to Newton, Iowa, to make her home at Wesley Park Centre near her family. She was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa, where she served as a deaconess, long-time Sunday school teacher, member of the Missionary Workshop and an Awana director and leader. She enjoyed her participation for many years in the Sew-and-So Club and Thrifty Homemakers, was a past officer of the Mahaska County Farm Bureau Woman’s Committee and a long-time member of Farm Bureau.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis (Tari) Brostrom of Newton; three grandchildren, Kristin of Bondurant, Iowa, Greg of Kansas City, Mo., and Jana of Newton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 25, 2002, her parents, infant son Charles, infant daughter Karen, her brother Deane Dinsmore, and her sister Nellie Helm.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 24, in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Bryan Latchaw officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery at Fremont. Visitation will begin Wednesday after 11 a.m., with the family present at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. The family requests that memorials be given to the Fellowship Bible Church of Oskaloosa.
