Although the springtime breezes greet us softly, and the sun shines warm and bright – our hearts are bowed with sorrow – a gloom has settled down over the entire community, which none of these can dispel. It has been known for several days that Mrs. J. H. Little was very ill, but only a few hours before the summons came did her friends realize that death was so near; but Tuesday morning surrounded by her husband, parents, sister and brothers, and loving friends, this estimable woman’s spirit took its flight. There are times when words fail us, and we can only stand with bowed heads and aching hearts, and thus it is in this dispensation. In the midst of so many of life’s blessings and beloved by all who knew her, she has passed away; earth’s fondest ties are severed. Four little ones are left motherless. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, March 13, 1896, Page 5, Column 4 – Prairie City
