Bessie Kuhn, ten-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David B. Kuhn, died last Monday morning of paralysis resulting from a severe attack of diphtheria, and was buried at 5 o’clock of the same day. Mr. Kuhn’s family have been sorely afflicted during the past few weeks, several of them having had diphtheria. All the others have recovered, excepting Lillie, a fifteen-year-old daughter, who is still quite sick, but reported better. Rev. S. T. Martin assisted by Rev. C. V. Cowan, conducted a short service at the grave, where Bessie was buried, and only a few friends being permitted to be present. ~ The Newton (IA) Record, Friday, March 13, 1896, Page 1, Column 2
