Isaac Pennington was born at Bellefonte, Center Co., Pa., June 15, 1812, and died at his home near Newton, Tuesday, December 31st.

The deceased was converted when but eleven years of age, and continued a faithful Christian and member of the church until death, which is a great consolation to the bereaved ones in this hour of sorrow.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in this city, Thursday, Jan. 2nd, at 1 p. m., conducted by Rev. D. Phillips. Interment in Newton Cemetery. ~ The Newton (IA) Record, Friday, January 3, 1896, Page 4, Column 2

Died at the home of his son, R. E. Pennington, in Newton Township, on Tuesday, December 31st, at 6 o’clock in the morning, Isaac Pennington, aged eighty-one years, six months and fifteen days. Father Penning was born in Center County, Pennsylvania, June 15, 1814. He was united in marriage to Sarah Keller, in January 1837, and to them were given five children – four girls and one boy. He wife died on the 13th of October 1850, and four years later, Jan. 5, 1854, he was again married, his second wife being Flan Will. To them were born three children – two daughters and one son.

He continued to live in his native county in Pennsylvania until the spring of 1876, when with his wife and family, he came west and settled in Jasper County.

At the age of eleven years, he was converted and united with the M. E. Church, and has lived during all these long years, a most devoted Christian and earnest believer in the doctrine of his church. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and a kind and indulgent father. The sons and daughters living are: Henry Pennington, Abilene, Kansas; Mrs. Isaac Miller, Bellefonte, Penn.; Mrs. J. H. Musser and Mrs. J. B. Ross, Colfax, Iowa; Mrs. John Eckley, Cameron, Neb.; Mrs. Thos. Campbell, Bonta, Iowa; and Robert E. Pennington, near this city, at whose home the aged father spent the closing years of his long and useful life.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church of this city, on the following Thursday afternoon, Rev. David Phillips, of Newton circuit, preaching the funeral service. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, January 3, 1896
