Prairie City – Wilson Ramsey, died at his home in this city, Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 14. Mr. Ramsey was 63 years of age and had been ailing for many months. Funeral was conducted by Rev. Moore Thursday afternoon at the home. ~ The Newton Record, Part Two, Friday, January 17, 1896, Page 6, Column 1

Old Veteran Mustered Out

Wilson Ramsey, an old veteran of the War of the Rebellion, died at his home in Prairie City, on Tuesday of last week, aged 62 years, 6 months and 11 days. He was a native of Pennsylvania, born near Pittsburgh, July 3, 1833. He leaves a wife and eleven children. He was an old soldier belonging to Company D, Seventy-seventh Pennsylvania. Since March 1890, he has been a resident of Prairie City, enjoying to the fullest extent the confidence and esteem of all who know him. The funeral occurred on Thursday, and the body was carried to its last resting place, in Waveland Cemetery, by his old comrades of McCraey Post, G. A. R., of which organization he was a member. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, January 24, 1896, Page 1, Column 5
