Came to See Her Dying Boy

Mrs. Phebe McVey arrived from Denver, Colorado, last Saturday evening, - called here by the illness of her son, Myron McVey, who is lying at the point of death, in the home of Mrs. Jacob Rood, near Murphy. Myron is a young man of about eighteen years of age. He had been sick for some time, and of late has declined so rapidly that his physician thinks he cannot survive many days. He has looked forward anxiously for the coming of his mother, and the meeting of mother and son was very touching under the sad circumstances.

Since writing the above we learn that the young man passed away at 5 o’clock on Monday evening, January 20th. He was conscious and talked to his mother and friends freely until the last moment. The funeral services were held at Mt. Zion M. E. Church at 2 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon. To the sorrowing mother, who came so far to be with her boy during his dying hours, and whose cup of sorrow seems full to overflowing, we extend our tenderest sympathy. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, January 24, 1896, Page 1, Column 6

Myron was born in the State of Illinois, moving with his parents , when but a small boy to Iowa. He was nineteen years of age. The funeral was held at Mt. Zion on the 22nd, and the services were conducted by Rev. Phillips, and his body was interred in the Mt.
