A Sad Home-Coming
Mr. and Mrs. John M. Dickson returned to their home in Creston, Tuesday morning. Their mission to their old Newton home was full of sadness and sorrow to them. About six months ago their beautiful three-year-old daughter, Verna, fell from a porch sustained severe injuries in the spine. At first the parents had reason to hope that the injuries were only temporary, and that their darling would soon be restored to her usual strength. But on the third day after, she was taken with a nervous chill, which resulted in paralysis of the entire little body, from head down. It was a sad blow to the young parents. The skill of eminent physicians was tested and everything possible done to save their little one, but all in vain. On Monday night, January 13th, the spirit escaped from the diseased little body, and her sufferings were over. The parent brought their little one to Newton, and on Thursday afternoon, January 16, funeral services were held at the home of A. J. Dickson, conducted by Rev. McKee, after which the remains were laid to rest in our cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Dickson had long been residents of this city and vicinity, and only last February sold their farm, four miles east of town, and moved to their present home near Creston. In their sad bereavement they have warmest sympathy of everybody. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, January 24, 1896, Page 1, Column 4
