SUDDEN DEATH

Jane [Brothers] Hanson, born January 30, 1822, in Birmingham, England, died in Newton, July 5, 1904, aged 82 years, 5 months, and 13 days. She had been in her usual health until about an hour before her death, and had been sitting in a chair. She asked to be put back in bed and while this was being done her heart failed her and she was dead in a few moments.

She was married to Thomas Hanson March 1, 1841, in Warwickshire, England. To them were born fourteen children, five being dead, two dying in infancy, and three living to maturity. Those living are Mrs. James Lister, Mrs. Thomas Smith, Mrs. W. S. Ferguson, Mrs. John Woodrow, Mrs. John Cleasby, Mr. Arthor Hanson, all of Newton; Mr. Thomas Hanson and Mr. Henry Harrington (an adopted son) of Colfax; Mrs. John Beach and Mrs. William Newton of England.

Up to last February she was a strong active woman, but at that time was taken sick, and has been very poorly ever since. For the past eight years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. John Cleasby, but two weeks ago, thinking a change would be of benefit, she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ferguson, where she died. Mr. Hanson died July 30, 1879. They came to Jasper county in 1869, where they have ever since resided, and where Mr. Hanson was engaged in brickmaking for many years. There are fifty grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Lutheran church of Newton.

The funeral will be held tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Lutheran church.
