MOSS- Died at his residence in Newton on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1885, of asthma and consumption, John Moss, aged 53 years.

Mr. Moss was born in Connock, Worsell, England, in 1832, where he was married, and moved to Newton in Aug. 29, 1869, where he has since resided. He was by occupation a painter. Several years ago he was prostrated by being lead poisoned; this finally developed into asthma and consumption, of which he died. For the past four years he was a great sufferer, and at the time of his death there was scarcely an ounce of flesh on him, so poor had he become. About 14 children were born to him, only four of whom, with his widow, survive him, and have the sympathies of our people with them in this affliction. Mr. Moss was of excellent family in England, a finished mechanic, and was one of the best flower gardeners in the county.

Funeral at St. Stephens church at 2 o'clock this afternoon.

Though tongues shall cease and power decay,
and knowledge empty prove,
Do thou thy trembling servents stay
with faith, with hope, with love.

The Journal, Newton, Iowa, Wednesday, December 9, 1885.
