Maxine McClellan, age 94 of Prairie City, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Courtyard Estates in Bondurant. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Prairie City United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. with burial following at Waveland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Coburn Funeral Home of Prairie City from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Jasper County 4H and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Henry and Anna Laura (Jenkins) Hawkins, Frances Maxine Hawkins was born on Oct. 3, 1916 in rural Colfax, Iowa. On Feb. 8, 1944 Maxine was united in marriage with Roy E. McClellan in Des Moines. The couple lived near Prairie City and Maxine was a dedicated Homemaker. Maxine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and caning chairs. She was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, Mt. Olive White Shrine, Rebecca Lodge, and a 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Maxine was an assistant food superintendent for the Iowa State Fair and volunteered at the Jasper County Fair.
Those left to honor Maxine’s memory are her son, David McClellan and his wife Charlotte of Prairie City; two grandchildren, Sherri Carlson and her husband Chad of Bondurant; and Mark McClellan and his wife Beth of Prairie City; six great-grandchildren, Hope, John, and Faith Carlson, and Brad, Jack, and Kate McClellan and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Alice Vander Leest and Rachel Perkins, and one brother, Delbert Hawkins.
