LeRoy H. Borts, 78, of Colfax died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 7, at the Howard Street Christian Church with burial following at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice — Johnston, Colfax Soccer Club or Mitchell Village Care Center Activities Fund. The son of Russell H. “Dutch” Borts and Claudine (Webb) Moore, LeRoy was born on Dec. 28, 1932, in Valeria, Iowa. LeRoy served in the United States Army. On Sept. 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ayers in Valeria. LeRoy worked at Maytag for 36 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the UAW Local 997, VFW and American Legion.
Those left to honor his memory include, his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Debora (David) Winkels of Altoona, Denise (Ramond) Aikin of Colfax and Donna (Bob) Wilson of Mingo; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John (Alice) Borts and George (Elaine) Moore. Preceding him in death were his parents; his step-father; a sister, Doris Mae; and two great-granddaughters.
