Obituary of Mrs. Robert Warner
Maria J. Larison who, for 38 years, has been a resident of Colfax, died in this place last Saturday morning a victim of cancer.
She was born in Ohio in 1832, and married in the same state to Mr. Samuel Mardis, and he brought his young wife to Des Moines.
At the breaking out of the Civil War, Mr. Mardis went to the front and died of disease at Vicksburg. Mrs. Mardis was left with five young children, Mesdames Wright, Emanuel, Richey, Warner and Mr. Abijah Mardis.
After the war the widow married Robert Warner and they located in Colfax where they lived 38 years, until the death of Mr. Warner, February 1908. One son, Lewis, the fruit of this union, resides in California, and a brother; John Larison, survives this good mother.
The funeral service was from the Presbyterian church last Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Miles delivering the discourse, and the interment was at Oak Hill. ~ Colfax Clipper, Thursday, March 30, 1913, page 1.
