A SAD HOME. - Miss Fannie Rodgers, only daughter of John F. and Eliza Rodgers, died at the home of her parents, one mile east of Newton, last Thursday afternoon. It has only been three short years since an older sister, Rosa, died of the same disease, consumption, and now the beautiful home is again darkened by sorrow for the death of the last and only daughter on whom the affection of parents and brother had been centered so tenderly.

Fannie was in her 24th year; was born and spent her entire life in the home where she died. Her's was a lovely christian character, an unkind word never passing her lips in regard to any one. She was very retired and unassuming, but had the faculty of making warm friends of all whith whom she became acquainted. For several years she has been in delicate health, and all that loving hearts could suggest or tender hands accomplish, to coax back the bloom of health to her cheek; but no avail. While she had a strong desire to live for the sake of her loved ones, she was perfectly resigned to the will of the Master, and when the final summons came she called her loved ones around her, bade them an affectionate "good-bye" and sank to rest.

The funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. H. Shaffer, a former pastor of the Newton M.E. Church. A large number of friends and relatives were present and followd the remains to our beautiful cemeery where they were laid to rest beside her sister. All hearts beat in tender sympathy for the bereaved parents and brother in this great sorrow. ~ The Newton Journal, June 15, 1892
