Cela M. Seals, 81, of Newton died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Prime Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Tom Burns officiating. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the funeral home.
Memorials in Cela’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The son of William Seals and Lou O’Brien, Cela was born March 30, 1930, in Centerville, Iowa. He attended school in Mystic, Iowa.
Cela retired from Midwest Manufacturing after working there 18½ years. He also worked for the Maytag Company and had done construction.
Cela enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, watching Westerns, going to garage sales and junk shops. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, cheering for Jimmie Johnson and was a season ticket holder at the Iowa Speedway. He enjoyed his morning coffee with “the guys” at the Midtown Café, where he was affectionately known as “Baldy.”
Cela is survived by two sons, Greg (Denise) Sutton of Newton and Larry Wilson of Newton; two daughters, Virginia (Dino) Kostes of Colfax and LouAnn Seals of Newton; his best friend, Mae Rudloff of Newton; four grandchildren, Shawn (Cheri) Sutton of Urbandale, Tom Steele of Fairfield, Christina (Aaron) Mickelson of Blue Springs, Mo., and Stephanie (Josh) Worley of Newton; five great-grandchildren, Corgan Worley, Molly and Maggie Mickelson and McKenzie and Bailey Sutton; his siblings, Ora (Louise) Seals of Newton, Iris (Jack) Smith of Newton, Faith (Delbert) Engle of Centerville and Jean Jones of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his children’s mother, Phyllis Seals; and his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Edward Bills.
