Roy J. Buitenwerf, 90, of Prairie City died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A memorial service took place this morning, Jan. 31, at the First Reformed Church of Prairie City. Visitation was on Sunday, Jan. 30, at Coburn Funeral Home of Prairie City.

Roy was born September 13, 1920 in Prairie City, Iowa the son of John and Hattie (Maassen) Buitenwerf. He was a graduate of Prairie City High School, class of 1939. Roy married Wilma Van Zee on June 23, 1944. Roy, a co-owner of Star Oil Company of Prairie City, Iowa, retired in 1976.
Roy is survived by his wife, Wilma, of 66 years and two sons, Mark and Michael.
Mark (Eunice) and their children, Eric and Ryan (Tamara) and their children Scott, Bethany, and Judah.
Michael (Betty) and their children Tera and Tyler. Tera (Kevin) Washpun and their children Isaac and Gavin. Tyler (Anita) and their child, Ian. Roy is also survived by his sister Elise Horsfall.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hattie and sister, Reva Van Gorp.
