MITCHELLVILLE – Elsie M. Loper, 87, of Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville, formerly of Newton, died of pneumonia Thursday, April 19, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Jerry Doellinger officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Pence Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday at the church where family will be available until the time of the service. Memorials will be accepted to Our Savior Lutheran Church or to Alzheimer’s Disease Research. The daughter of Henry J. and Dora C. Hoerling Bohne, she was born July 18, 1913, in Chihulis, Wash. Prior to moving to Newton in 1944, she lived in Ankeny. On Jan. 30, 1944, she married Willard H. Loper in Newton. Mrs. Loper worked for the Maytag Company and later, worked as a seamstress for Younkers in Newton until she retired. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton and enjoyed camping and doing crafts. Survivors include a step–son and daughter–in–law, Dwaine and Pearl Loper of Encinitas, Calif.; a daughter and son–in–law, Marilyn and Eldon Lind of Colfax; a step–daughter, Shirley Kelley of Altoona; five grandchildren; three great–grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Bohne of Altoona and Rosie Moore of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
