Rites Held for John Cairns, Sr.

Funeral services for John Howard Cairns, Sr. 82, of Polk city Manor in Polk City, a former resident of Colfax, were held at 10 am Saturday, June 26, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. The Rev. Omer Woltering, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:30 pm Friday, June 25, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Soloist was Tim Wilson and Organist was Mary Clark. Casket bearers were Thomas Liddell, Francis Liddell, Jim Shaffer, Ralph Dunahoo, Clarence Link and Richard Jewett. Mr. Cairns died Wednesday, June 24 at the Polk City Manor in Polk City. Survivors are his wife Frances; a son, John Cairns, Jr. of Council Bluffs; and a brother, Edwin C. of St. Joseph, MO.; he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Mr. Cairns was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines. An employee at the Colfax First National Bank for many years, Mr. Cairns also had farmed in the Maxwell area. The son of Robert and Daisy Howard Cairns, he was born January 24, 1900 in Maxwell and was educated at Maxwell High School and Capitol City Commercial College. He was married to Frances Liddell June 15, 1926 in Colfax. ~ Jasper County Tribune, July 1, 1982
