Mrs. Ray Baker of Mingo died Friday, July 28
Mrs. Ray Baker, 57, of Mingo, died early Friday morning at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines following a lingering illness. She had been in the hospital for fourteen weeks. She was born and raised in Colfax and spent the greater part of her life here, moving to Mingo a few years ago. While in Colfax she took an active part in community and church affairs. Hattie Leon Baker was born June 1, 1887, near Colfax, IA.; and departed this life July 28, 1944, at the age of 57 years, 1 month and 27 days. The early part of her life was spent near Colfax. In early life she united with the Baptist church, but after moving to Mingo she transferred to the Methodist church. She had taught in the Colfax, Greencastle and Mingo schools and served as a member of the Colfax school board. She was united in marriage March 10, 1915, to Ray Baker. To this union was born one son. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Ray Baker, on son Glenn Baker, one granddaughter, Dian Baker, all of Mingo; three brothers, Harley Leach of Des Moines, John Leach of Urbandale and Louis Leach of Grinnell, IA.; three sisters, Mrs. James Bridie of Des Moines, Mrs. Nora Nelson of Colfax and Alma Wider of Reder, ND.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church at Mingo with the Rev. I. G. Wilkins, a former pastor, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Howard Southern, Mrs. Lou Neal, Alvin Geisler, and Otho Hulse with Mrs. L.L. Pickett accompanist. Pallbearers were L. L. Pickett, Marion Eubank, Lloyd Elrod, Jack Womeldorff, Albert Toms and Herry Frey. Flower committee was Mrs. Marion Eubank and Mrs. Willis Beard. Burial was had in the Greencastle Cemetery. ~ Colfax Tribune, August 3, 1944
