Elmo “Bus” Briggs, 85, of Lynnville died on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Services are going to be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.

Lynnville man dies following head-on crash
An 85-year-old Lynnville man died on Christmas following a car accident two days earlier on Highway 224.
Elmo “Bus” Briggs Jr. was traveling south on 224 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Dec. 23 when northbound a vehicle driven by Ellen Ann Rozendaal, 63, of Lynnville attempted to turn left in front of Briggs to enter the Interstate 80 on-ramp. The two vehicles collided head-on, according to officials with the Iowa State Patrol. Rozendaal was uninjured, but Briggs was transported to Skiff Medical Center by Kellogg ambulance and then to Mercy Medical Center, where he later died.
According to the report, both Rozendaal and Briggs were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Both Briggs’ 1996 Chevrolet Lumina and Rozendaal’s 2001 Dodge R15 were totaled. Rozendaal was cited with failure to yield upon making a left turn.
Funeral arrangements for Briggs are being handled by the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton. Services are planned for a later date.
